Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk warm
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg large
Filling
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 apple peeled and finely chopped
Cream Cheese Glaze
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and pinch of sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, sugar, salt, melted butter, and egg. Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped apple for filling.
  5. Roll dough into 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly.
  6. Roll tightly from long edge, cut into 12 rolls, place in greased 9×13-inch pan.
  7. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  9. Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

Chop apples finely to prevent soggy rolls. Glaze while rolls are warm for best texture.
