- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients.
- Add food coloring if desired.
- Roll dough into balls and place on baking sheets.
- Press a cherry into each cookie and bake 10–12 minutes.
Notes
Dry cherries thoroughly to prevent excess spreading.
