Ingredients
  

Bread Dough
  • 3.5 cups bread flour
  • 1.25 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
Finishing
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal for baking surface

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet or pizza stone
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife

Method
 

  1. Combine warm water and yeast in a large bowl and let sit until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, olive oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, parsley, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Mix into a shaggy dough and knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
  5. Shape dough into a rustic round loaf.
  6. Place loaf on a cornmeal-dusted baking surface and let rise again.
  7. Brush with melted butter and top with extra Parmesan cheese.
  8. Score the top of the dough and bake until golden brown and crusty.
  9. Cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

For extra crusty bread, place a small pan of hot water in the oven while baking. Serve warm with butter or olive oil dipping sauce.
