Homemade Chocolate Pudding Pie

Ingredients
  

Chocolate Filling
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 3 egg yolks large
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Pie Base
  • 1 pre-baked pie crust 9-inch
Topping
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Whisk sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  4. Temper egg yolks with hot pudding mixture.
  5. Return mixture to saucepan and cook for 2–3 more minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  7. Pour pudding into the prepared pie crust.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours until set.
  9. Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla and spread on top before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, garnish with chocolate curls or cocoa powder. Keep refrigerated until serving.
