- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and scrub potatoes.
- Bake potatoes for 45–60 minutes until tender.
- Sauté onions, carrots, and garlic in olive oil until soft.
- Add ground meat and cook until browned.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, peas, salt, and pepper; simmer 5–10 minutes.
- Prepare mashed potatoes with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Slice baked potatoes, scoop out some flesh if desired.
- Fill potato shells with shepherd’s pie mixture.
- Top with mashed potato and optional cheese.
- Bake 10–15 minutes until golden and serve warm.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute meat with lentils or mushrooms.
