Traditional Irish Potato Pie

Ingredients
  

Potato Topping
  • 2 lbs potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup milk adjust for creaminess
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg optional
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley for garnish
Beef Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, 15–20 minutes.
  3. Mash potatoes with butter and milk until creamy; season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  4. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
  5. Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  6. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper; simmer 5 minutes.
  7. Spread beef filling in a baking dish; top with mashed potatoes and create peaks.
  8. Bake 20–25 minutes until potato topping is golden and edges bubble.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
